Indeck Niles LLC Names PIC O&M Operator for GE H-Class Turbine Project

Atlanta, GA., January 19, 2020 – Indeck Niles LLC, a joint venture between Indeck Energy Services, Korean Southern Power Co., Ltd. and Daelim Energy Co., Ltd., has selected PIC Group, Inc. to serve as the O&M provider for its 1,085 MW Niles power plant in Michigan. The $1 billion project is a high-efficiency, air-cooled 2 x 1 General Electric H-class combined cycle gas turbine power plant that will create enough energy to power 635,000 homes and businesses.

“PIC Group has developed a documented methodology and comprehensive training program for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of power generation plants using a wide variety of technologies,” Frank Avery, president and CEO, said. “Our methodology and training are long-term investments in our employees and produce high levels of facility performance while effectively managing costs and producing lasting value through our operations and maintenance philosophy.”

“This plant uses new, state-of-the-art technologies, we needed an O&M operator that would train and develop the technical know-how and skills that our people needed to safely operate the Niles facility,” Mike DuBois, VP Project Development, said. “PIC Group offered a comprehensive O&M services package which was very important to us.”

The new power plant is being built in Cass County, Michigan which is part of the South Bend–Mishawaka, IN-MI, Metropolitan Statistical Area with a population of 316,663 people. The new plant will be fueled by natural gas and is expected to produce 50%-90% fewer emissions than traditional coal-fired plants.

The Niles facility will feature new, state-of-the-art technologies designed to produce cleaner, more reliable energy and is expected to be Michigan’s most energy efficient plant of its kind. The plant’s generating capacity will help replace over 200 coal-fired plants decommissioned in the US over the past decade – including 20 coal-fired plants closed in 2018.

The City of Niles’ location provides Indeck Energy with central access to existing natural gas transmission lines and access to the power distribution network serving the Midwest.
